1,000 Books Before Kindergarten:
Experts tell us that children need to hear a thousand stories read aloud before they begin to learn to read for themselves -Mem Fox, Reading Magic.
The Somerset Public Library is here to support your literacy journey through our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. Register today at the Library and receive a folder of information along with a reading log to get started. Each time you and your child complete 100 books there will be incentives related to our READ 'MO BOOKS theme. Pigeon, Piggy, and Elephant are eager to have you stop by. If you read three books a day to your child, in just one year you will have read 1,095 books!
You won't want to miss our drop-in Storytime held Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. and repeated again at 1:15 p.m. Check the calendar for periodic breaks. Between the laughs we work on social skills, colors, shapes, and numbers. There is also time for exploring, crafting, and of course reading. Sessions are approximately 45 minutes long.
Please note: Storytime is on hiatus during summers and school breaks both winter & spring.
